We often get asked by people how they can set up a lighting studio on the cheap that can be broken down quickly as they don’t have a lot of room. I tell them we started out with clamp on lights and canvas painters drop cloths.
I was asked this today by a friend and I decided to draw up this quick tutorial on who to make a studio in your house for under $100.
I decided to post it here for everyone so you all can afford a cool lighting studio without spending a crap load of money. This set up served us well for many years. We sometimes go back to it when we want a certain look to our photos.
I hope this helps you all in making a studios in your house whether you be photographer, model, cosplayer, illustrator etc.
Have fun building!

A few more from the lighting experiment shoot i did with rikkux12
A while back I had received a phone call at 3am from miss Ela Darling who was involved in a fashion show in Boston. She was hoping i was up and could come over right away to photograph her body as she was bodypainted by the very talented Roustan from RI. She hadn’t gotten any photos of herself and even though some of the paint had rubbed off from her seatbelt and jacket on the drive home she wanted it documented. Well of course I said yes. And I am so happy i did as she looked amazing and Roustan’s work was beautiful. I am finally posting these as I thought I had lost them in our HD crash a few years ago and now they are found. I am very pleased.

This was a fun shoot. we bought so much plastic drop cloths. We had forgotten the apron so I fashioned one our of a black garbage bag. HAHA! DYI!
RikkuX as Mystique. We shot this on my last trip to Chicago. Sooo much blue paint. Sooo worth it.
A question I’m asked a lot is ‘What’s your favorite costume to wear?’ and I always flounder. It changes with my mood. Every costume I’ve created, I do it because I love the character and admire their qualities - their style, their attitude, their confidence, their strength. They’re like a piece to my puzzle, and when it snaps into place, I feel emboldened. I feel like I’ve leveled up.
Today is a Jessica Rabbit day. I need a little of this feeling right now.
Top and bottom photos are by my wonderful friend Benn at Robbins Studios. The center photo is by my likewise fantastic friend Kevin Green.
This is Bellechere. I love her to death.
Lauren. Schoolgirl. Piano practice gone awry.
Thanks to Vivid for the outfit! (bought during one of her awesome closet sales)
